Often times your daily makeup simply doesn't have the same effect come nightfall. To quickly transform your look from day to night without starting from scratch, follow our simple suggestions!

Since your going-out night look should be an amped-up version of your typical day look, it only takes a few steps to be out the door and looking your best!

FACE – If your face accumulated any oil throughout the day, use an oil blotting sheet. If you find yourself needing a bit more foundation in areas, lightly buff it into the skin using the F80 or F82. From there, re-apply concealer where needed and set face with a light powder.
EYES – To make eyes more fitting for a night out, enhance them with an eye shadow a few shades darker than the one you used for the day by blending it into the outer corner of the eye (We recommend 'Hitch' from the Bare Palette). Top it off with some black liner just along the lash line and a fresh swipe of mascara. (If you’re feeling adventurous you could use a brightly colored eye liner instead of black.)
LIPS – If you plan on going easy on the eyes then you can elect to use a bold lip color – anything from red to hot pink will take your look up a notch - just make sure to use a lip brush for accuracy. (If you opted for making your eyes the focus then stick to a nude lipstick or clear gloss).
*Pro tip: Always make sure you are applying your makeup in a well-lit space; if you apply it in a dim space you may end up putting on more than you should.

Whether you’re running late or simply looking to cut back the typical time of your daily beauty regimen, we got you covered! Follow our variety of quick tips and speedy solutions for getting gorgeous in a matter of minutes!

Less is more. The easiest way to look put together without putting in much effort (or time) is to just cover the basics: conceal any problem areas, give lashes a coat of mascara, apply a swipe of blush to cheeks, and add some gloss to lips.
Double duty. Opt for products that can serve multi-purposes to save you time. Pass on your usual moisturizer/foundation application in favor of a tinted moisturizer, utilize a two-in-one lip and cheek stain, or use a colored shadow base as your eye shadow (coming to Sigma soon!)
Fake awake. Over slept? No problem! Brighten eyes by applying concealer underneath to hide any bags or darkness -- the P82 brush works wonders! From there, apply a highlighter (we suggest 'Lumiere') to the inner corners of the eyes for an instant brightening effect.
Pretty prepared. If you’re notorious for being late, have a stash of your essential makeup items for those days that your time to get ready is cut in half and you need to be able to access your beauty basics asap.
Beauty and the bold. If you’re in a major time crunch, we love the fool-proof rule of two: simply apply mascara and a bright or bold lipstick. Viola - glam on the go!

Whether you are excited to be back in school or are already counting down the days until next summer, we have some suggestions so you can hit the hallways while putting your best face forward. Read on to get our top do’s and don’ts to have a stunning school year!

DO
- Extend your summer glow – read our ‘getting glowing guide’for an in depth how-to!

- Look alive! There is nothing worse than showing up to school with tired eyes and dark circles. Prevent it: get plenty of sleep. Fix it:give the area a light application of concealer using our trusty P82 brush!
- Keep it cool – on the eyes, that is! Blue, gray, and silver tones are perfect for fall. Add your own touch by blending various hues in the same color scheme, and don’t be shy to introduce a little bit of eyeliner, especially colored!
- Blend it out. When it comes to makeup, you never want to see where color begins or ends. Whether its foundation, blush, or eye shadow, there should be no harsh lines.
- Play with pigment! A bright, bold lip is a fun and easy way to amp up your look this fall. (Just make sure you go easy on the eyes if you opt for a dramatic lip color)

DON’T
- Go overboard – piling on the product is far from flattering. Makeup is meant to accentuate your already natural beauty so remember to keep it to a minimum.

- Use your fingers. For the most flawless makeup application, get your fingers off your face and use professional makeupbrushes! After all, that’s what they’re there for!
- Create clumps. To avoid clumpy-looking mascara, roll the wand as you apply the mascara from base to tip. This will separate your lashes as it lengthens.

- Skip washing. If you leave makeup on before going to bed, you run the risk of clogged pores, increased appearance of fine lines and a higher chance of developing blemishes. The Cleansing and Polishing Tool is sure to give your face a fresh and clean feel!

How do you stay looking your best for school or work?

Alright, so next week is the beginning of September -- are you as excited for fall as we are? Even if you’re not ready to say so long to summer, you don’t have to say goodbye to your gorgeous glow! Today we’re talking about how to extend glowing skin into the colder months.

When it comes to your face, you can keep rockin’ your beautiful bronze by lightly applying bronzer to your cheekbones, temples and top of forehead – all places where the sun would naturally hit. From there, use a coral or peach-colored blush and a swipe of highlighter (the Paris Palette has the perfect picks!) *Make sure to check out our recent Highlight How-to post if you missed it!) You can also maintain the summer spirit in your eye makeup by using brown and taupe eye shadow colors with a subtle shimmer -- the Bare Palette offers several great options!

To keep the rest of your body looking naturally glowy, use a large body brush such as the B05 to apply a combination of highlighter and bronzer (steer clear of ones that contain too much shimmer) onto your décolletage, chest, and any other areas you want to give a glow to.
We also recommend staying active! Physical activity increases blood flow to the skin, giving you a naturally rosy glow. Combine that with regular use of your Cleansing & Polishing Tool and you will exude a natural glow year-round. And last but not least, drink plenty of water to hydrate skin to keep it from looking parched.
How do you keep yourself glowing past summer?

Although the end of summer is near as fall starts to creep upon us, you can be sure there are still a few hot days to cherish before we can say goodbye to sandals and hello to sweaters. To keep your mascara from melting and your foundation from fading, we have some tried and true tips!

·         To create a smooth canvas for makeup to adhere to, use a primer prior to foundation application. (We love applying ours with the F60 or F80 for a seamless application).

·         The same goes for your eyes in regards to a primer; apply an eye shadow base to leave eyes looking cool, not creased. The P82 is our go-to tool for that.

·         Oil-based cosmetics don’t mix well with hot weather. Your best bet is to opt for light and shear foundation for the longest lasting results, or even better – simply use concealer on problem areas and skip foundation all together.

·         Keep your makeup run-free by choosing waterproof products, this is especially important when it comes to eyeliner and mascara.

·         Complete your makeup look by setting face with a light application of loose powder -- the ultra-soft and fluffy F20 works wonders! Pro tip: Freshen your makeup later on in the day with a quick mist of facial toner.

·         And last but not least, our most important piece of advice for staying chic in the heat: wear sunscreen because let’s face it -- there’s nothing glamorous about wrinkled skin as a result of basking in the sun and skimping on sunscreen. (You can read more about taking preventative measures here)

With summer well on its way, those oh-so familiar lyrics of… “Here comes the bride…all dressed in white…” come to mind. Today we’re sharing with you a list of some of our favorite bridal-day beauty tips for the ‘big day.’ Bonus - several of these tips not only apply to the bride, but to bridesmaids and attendees as well!
  • Prime.Apply a primer before your foundation to fill in fine lines and pores. This will also help the foundation adhere to your face better so it doesn’t fade later on.

  • Prep. Eye makeup tends to slide off as lids produce oil throughout the day. Use the P82to apply an eye shadow base prior to eye shadow application for long-lasting wear.

  • Proof it.Waterproof that is! If there is any chance you think that you might shed a tear or two, make sure to use waterproof mascara and eyeliner to keep your makeup looking mess-free.

  • Stay in line. Before putting on your lipstick, apply a lip liner all over the lips as opposed to just lining them; this will form a base to help lipstick stay put longer and prevent feathering. From there, use a precise brush like the L05 to layer your lipstick on top.

  • Have a stash. The night before, put together a mini stockpile of essential beauty items for touching up makeup throughout the day (and night) such as q-tips, Kleenex, a mascara wand, a powder brush, oil blotting sheets, a pocket-size mirror, plus any other makeup items you think you might need to re-apply later. (Tip: the MAXBag would fit everything perfectly!)

Not too long ago we discussed how to find the perfect foundation shade, but what about the ideal formula? From powder to mineral to liquid, the options can be overwhelming, to say the least! Today we’ll be focusing on differentiating among the available types and pinpoint which one works best for you and your skin type!

Powder – The lightest of coverage, this type of foundation is sheer and a great option for those with blemish-free skin who do not need a lot of coverage, or for those trying to counteract oily skin.
Suggested brush options for optimum application: F30, F45

Mineral – Gives a medium, buildable coverage. A good choice for any skin type.
Suggested brush options for optimum application: F82

Mousse* – Also referred to as “whipped,” this is a newer formula on the market that is known for its light-weight application and provides medium to full coverage.
Suggested brush options for optimum application: F50, F80

Cream* This particular formula tends to have a thicker consistency and gives full coverage. Good choice for those with dryer skin and a great option for winter months!
Suggested brush options for optimum application: F80, F82, F84

Liquid* – Provides medium to full coverage. A good choice for any skin type.
Suggested brush options for optimum application: F60, F80, F84

* If your skin is oily, opt for an oil-free version.

Pro tip: When possible, purchase foundations that have SPF in them (in addition to what's in your moisturizer) for extra sun protection to preserve your youthful-looking skin!

Despite the misleading title, we’re not talking about our Dare and Bare eye shadow palettes; today we’re talking about giving your face a breather by taking a break from your beauty bag during the hot summer months! Can't come to terms with the idea of going au natural? You can still sport a natural look using minimal products that consist of neutral tones. Keep reading to learn how!

To appear as natural looking as possible without sacrificing a few makeup musts, here’s what we suggest:
  • Use a tinted moisturizer (with SPF of course) to provide a subtle coverage

  • With a large powder brush such as the F30, lightly apply a matte bronzer onto the areas of your face that the sun naturally hits (top of forehead, nose, and cheekbones.) Pro tip: make sure to avoid any product with shimmer for the most natural effect.

  • Give cheeks an authentic-looking flush with a light application of peach blush directly onto the apple of the cheeks (We personally love the shade “PĂŞche" from the Paris Palette)

  • Take the cheeks a step further by giving them a sheer glow with a highlighter. You can’t go wrong with the shade Lumiere

  • Prep the lids with a shadow base and apply a nude-toned shadow on top -- “Elope” or “Approach” from the BARE Paletteare great options!

  • Apply 1-2 coats of clear (or brown) mascara for naturally lush-looking lashes

  • Complete this care-free summer look with a swipe of tinted lip balm

To find a foundation that works for you, you need to make sure to buy one that best matches your skin tone. To get that just-right shade, here are some suggestions:

Test the color. Place the foundation along your jawline, not on your hand like you might have been told in the past because your hand may yield a different color than your face. If the color blends seamlessly, it’s a winner!

Get samples. If possible, take home samples to try out in a few shades that appear to closely match your skin tone. (Cosmetic counters in department stores will often offer a variety of samples for you to take home and test).

Mix shades. Sometimes you may find that you need to mix two shades in order to create on that best matches your skin tone.

Step into the sun. See yourself with the foundation on in natural light to make sure it’s the right shade. It’s also a good idea to apply your foundation next to window that lets in natural light for that same reason.

Adjust the shade. The shade of foundation you choose may alter every few months based on the season and your daily exposure to sunlight so buy according to the season.

Lastly, we always recommend applying your foundation with the proper brush such as the F80 (best-seller!), F82or F60

This Sunday is National Earth Day! In honor of the occasion, we wanted to share with you some of our favorite ways to “green” your beauty routine. By adapting just a few of these suggestions into your everyday beauty regimen, we're firm believers thatit can help not only to keep you looking beautiful, but our planet as well!

Reduce. Try and use every last drop of each of your beauty products before you toss them to reduce the amount of waste. Use a lip brush to get the last bit of lipstick out and cut open plastic foundation or moisturizer packages to get a few more uses.

Reuse. Instead of using cotton pads to wipe off eye makeup, why not try using a wash cloth that can be reused instead?

Recycle. Many shampoos, body soaps and even makeup products are now sold in eco-friendly packaging that can be recycled.

Turn it off. We mean the water! Did you know that every minute the faucet runs, two gallons of water go down the drain? With that in mind, turn off the water when you are cleansing your face (C&P Tool anyone?) and only have it running when it’s time to rinse.

Opt for oil. Facial oils (essential, botanical or seed varieties) are an awesome eco-friendly alternative to your everyday moisturizer. Make sure to use your massager attachment when applying!

DIY – Do it yourself. There are plenty of recipes for products, like face masks for example, that can are 100% natural and that you can make cheaply at home!

We’ve all heard the tell-tale phrase ‘you are what you eat.’ While we shouldn’t take this phrase in a literal sense, it does have some truth to it. Our skin is the largest organ of the body so it’s important to take good care of it. Today we’re talking to you about the foods necessary to get glowing skin and prevent aging!

Vitamin A is essential for healthy eyes and skin!  It’s also necessary for the growth and renewal of skin cells, which plays an important role in slowing down the visibility of aging.
*Find it in vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes, butternut squash and spinach

Vitamin C is the building block of collagen - it gives skin its structure, tone and elasticity. It’s known for its ability for fighting off free radicals.
*Find it in citrus fruits like oranges, grapefruits and clementines. It's also in vegetables such as bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower and leafy greens.

Vitamin E reduces dryness and boosts skin’s UV defense, ultimately slowing down the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
*Find it in nuts, seeds, olive oil, spinach and asparagus

Omega-3 fatty acids makes for not only supple skin, but shiny hair as well (bonus)! The fatty acids repair damaged skin cells and dissolve fatty deposits that block pores.
*Find it in canola, flaxseed and walnut oils, and salmon

Items to skip or consume moderately (key word): dairy, alcohol, and foods that are processed or contain refined sugar.

We also recommend having a good skincare regimen that involves cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing. (Read more here!)

Who would’ve thought you could eat your way to beautiful skin? ;) What foods do you swear by for looking your best?

Today we’re talking makeup removal! Removing your makeup at the end of the day is one of the best things you can do for your skin. If you leave makeup on before going to bed or working out for example, you run the risk of clogged pores, increased appearance of fine lines and a higher chance of developing blemishes. Here are our simple steps for ‘taking it all off’ at the end of the day:

Remove eye makeup. Use an eye makeup remover to take off all makeup on and around the eyes. This step comes first because often times face cleansers don’t remove the eye makeup but rather leave you with a dark mess under the eyes. Cleansing the face afterwards will remove any eye makeup left behind.

Steam your pores. Drape a towel over your head and hold it over a sink of hot, steaming water. This opens the pores and clears out makeup, making it easier for cleansing. (Skip this step if you are short on time).

Cleanse the face. For gentle cleansing, use the extra-soft brush attachment from the Spa Solutions Kit. If you want added exfoliation, use the medium brush head. After applying your preferred cleanser onto the brush head, make small circles for 1-2 minutes to cleanse. Rinse and gently dry face.

Tone. To tighten pores and remove any final makeup residue, apply an astringent or toner onto a cotton ball and gently swipe along the face. (Do this only every other day or skip all together if you have dry skin).

Moisturize. Lastly, with the massager attachment from the Spa Solutions Kit, massage your choice of moisturizer or serum onto the face. Pro tip: Do this while skin is still slightly damp for the most absorption of product as possible.

It’s hard to believe we’re already well into the month of March and the official start of spring is just a few weeks away! It goes without saying that the change of seasons also means the change of skincare. Here are our simple suggestions for getting your skin ready for spring:

  • Exfoliate. The winter’s dry air may have left you with parched skin, which is why exfoliating plays such an important role in making your face look glowy and fresh. The Spa Solutions Complete Kit contains everything you need to get smooth skin and start spring off by looking fresh-faced and beautiful.

  • Switch it. We’re talking moisturizers! The cold winter months called for rich emollients to hydrate skin, but spring time is all about light-weight moisture. Use an oil-free moisturizer that contains a higher SPF protection for all your upcoming outdoor activities. Use the Spa Solutions massager to massage in the moisturizer and maximize absorption of product.

  • Brighten up. Out with the dark, in with the bright… eye shadow, that is! The Sigma Beauty FLARE Palette has all of the ideal stunning spring shades. Purple, teal and pastel greens are the essential colors to brighten your eyes and stay on trend for the season.

As we age, so does our skin. To stay looking fresh from year to year, it’s important to change our skin care routine as well as our makeup techniques. While getting older is inevitable, we’ve provided our key tips for looking your best no matter what your age!

In your teens and 20s…

The late teens and 20s are all about preserving youthfulness. The main focus is on damage prevention; how your skin will look several years down the road is dependent on how you take care of it now. You’ve probably heard it a million times, but a simple (and essential) step in age prevention is sunscreen. Don’t rely solely on the SPF from your foundation; use a daily moisturizer with SPF 30 in addition. Making sure to apply SPF to your hands and neck as well is just as important – these areas display the first signs of aging. Your 20s are also a prime time to get away with experimenting with bright and bold eye colors, such as these or these!

In your 30s…

In your 30s, skin slowly becomes thinner and finer from loss of elasticity. There is also a potential loss of collagen, as well as a slowdown in cell turnover, which can leave your complexion looking a little on the dull side. To counteract this, simply exfoliate weekly. We love the Cleansing and Polishing Tool for that! Try to use face creams and serums containing retinol or glycolic acid – ingredients shown to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The 30s are a great time to use bold lip colors balanced with neutral tones on the eyes, like those in the Bare Palette.

In your 40s and beyond…

When you reach forty, there is a further loss of collagen and elasticity, skin retains less moisture and hyper-pigmentation may be visible. Sun spots may also be evident. Face products with light-reflecting particles will help to make skin look healthy and fresh. Applying highlighter on the cheeks and brow bones is essential to bring out the face’s natural features. It’s important, however, to steer clear of sparkly and shimmery eye products as they can accentuate fine lines. Get a facial every 6 to 8 weeks to stimulate cell renewal and achieve a youthful glow. Better yet, create an at-home facial using the different attachments for the Cleansing and Polishing Tool!

What steps do you take in age prevention?
